More About Dr. Nancy
Named “one of the nation’s most prominent Ayurvedic doctors” by the Chicago Tribune, Dr. Lonsdorf is an award-winning integrative physician, author and speaker specializing in Ayurveda, women’s health and the prevention and reversal of cognitive decline.
Over the past thirty years, she has treated over 25,000 patients using Maharishi Ayurveda (Eye-yur-VAY-duh), along with functional medicine and conventional approaches for the relief of chronic health problems and for the reversal of cognitive decline.
Dr. Lonsdorf sees patients today in a variety of settings—at her office in Fairfield, IA, as well as online and over the phone, all over the world.
Dr. Lonsdorf loves to teach and offers online courses to share her Ayurvedic and medical wisdom and help improve health and well-being on all levels. She also regularly teaches Ayurveda to health professionals at Pacific Pearl La Jolla, the Academy of Integrative Health and Medicine and the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
After medical school, Dr. Lonsdorf took a year’s sabbatical and traveled to the Maharishi European Research Institute in Switzerland and completed training as a certified teacher of the Transcendental Meditation technique. She was introduced to Ayurveda at the First International Conference on Ayurveda held in Seelisberg, Switzerland in 1984.
Shortly thereafter, Dr. Lonsdorf took training in Ayurveda in the USA and also in India, with leading Ayurvedic doctors and scholars. Her own personal experience with Ayurveda and its deeply rejuvenating effects convinced her that she could be of most help to her patients by offering an integration of Ayurveda along with conventional medicine, when needed.
She entered full time private practice in 1987, as the Medical Director of the pioneering Maharishi Ayurveda Medical Center of Washington D.C. (1987-2000) and went on to serve as the Medical Director of The Raj Ayurveda Health Spa, an award-winning in-residence center for authentic Ayurvedic treatment (2000-2005).
In 2011, she was awarded the Atreya Award for Excellence in Ayurvedic Practice by the Association of Ayurvedic Pracitioners of North America and in 2017 received the Award of Excellence in Holistic Medicine by the Holistic Doctors Recognition Board.
Dr. Lonsdorf has a solid foundation in traditional Western medicine as well, having received her medical degree from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and residency training in psychiatry at Stanford University.
Dr. Lonsdorf has special expertise in women’s health and has authored two popular books on the topic, including The Ageless Woman: How to Navigate the Transition Naturally, for a Long Life of Vibrant Health and Radiant Beauty. She is also co-author of a best-selling Ayurvedic health guide for women of all ages, entitled A Woman’s Best Medicine: Health, Happiness and Long Life through Maharishi Ayurveda.
Dr. Lonsdorf has served on numerous NIH panels for complementary and integrative medicine and has lectured at some of the nation’s foremost medical institutions, including Johns Hopkins, Columbia University and George Washington University.
